Before & After: Paint Plus Fabric = Brand New Chair

We've said it before--we don't always agree that wood should be painted. But sometimes (just sometimes) furniture needs an upgrade with a fresh coat of paint--and maybe a little fun fabric from IKEA.

Jaime and Carleton's Backyard Palm Springs
House Tour

120209breakfastnook2.jpgName: Jaime, Carleton, and Scarlet Curtis
Location: Fairfax District in Los Angeles, CA
Size: 1,700 square feet
Years lived in: Just a few months

We love hearing from readers with updates about renovations or a move to a new home. Earlier this year, Jaime gave us a peek of her previous home in Silver Lake, right before making a move to a new home in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. She's finally settled into her new abode, recreating a little bit of Palm Springs chic in both the interior and backyard areas of her rental, a space they describe as a "little modern, a little cozy".

The Cats' House

Feline lovers, get ready for some pie-in-the-sky dreams come true: The Cats’ House designed by Japanese architecture firm Fauna+DeSIGN is dizzying in the amount of playful, yet tastefully designed, details created to amuse 16 very fortunate felines. Rounded corners throughout, bookcase steps, tunnels, skylights, ceiling catwalks and a floor to ceiling scratching post make this possibly the coolest pet-centric home we've ever seen.

What to Paint My First Condo?
Good Questions

Q: I'm about to close on my first condo and since now I can actually paint for the first time ever, I was thinking of painting an accent wall. The new place is exactly the same as my current unit (pictured here) except the floors will be darker, almost cherry, and I'll be getting my grandmother's fabulous olive green 1950s coffee table.

Cozying Up A Loft Using Fabric Panels

Loft living has plenty of advantages with our favorite being large open spaces that create a blank palette for your decorating preferences. And while we imagine all that stretched out space is light and airy, we would also feel the need to incorporate a little bit of coziness.

10 Tips for Dealing with The Wire Explosion

120209explosionofwires.jpgSomehow in our house, December is a mess of wires, plugs, cords and blown fuses. From the fairly lights to the Wii, most of what we want, buy, use and receive for the holidays seems to be electrical in nature. But, with only three sockets in our living room and only one socket per room in the rest of the house, it's an obstacle course of wires running every which way, an accident of some kind just waiting to happen. We rounded up some solutions.

Starting An Ornament Collection

120209ornament-01.jpgGrowing up, our family ornament collection consisted of mix and match baubles (mostly homemade by us kids). The effect was charming to say the least--the best part being all the stories behind each decoration. Even now, when we are invited into friends homes during the holiday season, we gravitate to the ornaments--finding each collection as interesting as the next.

Holiday Decorations in Los Angeles

120209_DittoXmas.jpgWIth Thanksgiving behind us, the holiday decorating has officially begun...even if some of us may have started early. As tacky or as cheesy as we may think outdoor holiday decorations are, we have to admit that we enjoy seeing them show up on the lawns when we drive through any of LA's neighborhoods.
