Wrap IKEA's Lack shelf with your favorite wallpaper to make an inconspicuous shelf that blends in with your walls. Click through to see what happens when you combine the popular floating shelf with a pattern that matches that of your walls...

The shelf all but disappears. The idea is shown here over a doorway, where the shelf could appear cumbersome and awkward. The matching shelf and walls, however, reduce the shelf's appearance, helping it "disappear". This example, from Canadian House & Home's small space gallery, uses IKEA's Lack shelf and wallpaper from Farrow & Ball.

Wait! Where's the person who ususaly shows up to say, "Ugh. Horrid. I would never do that in a million years. Puh-leeze."?
;)
i'll be that person. :)
wouldn't putting stuff on the shelf draw your eye towards it anyway, making the "invisible shelf" all of a sudden a "focal shelf"? Especially if its in an unexpected location, like above a doorframe???
