Industrial, elegant, utilitarian... these are some of our favorite words to use in design. Its not often we get to use them in the same sentence with "handcrafted", but then we saw these. LADAK blankets are all of those, plus gorgeous. Find out more about them and the Dutch company that handmakes them after the jump.
LADAK is a Dutch company (their name means "warmth, comfort and protection in style"). To make these incredible blankets, they start with a moving blanket, which basic material consist of recycled sweaters, blankets, jeans and even parts of mattresses. Then they lavishly finish them with ribbon, lace and silk borders, which gives them a combination of rough, utilitarian material and elegant finishing. We love that no blanket is the same (although you can choose from several designs), and they are even machine washable.
When we first heard about Ladak blankets from a friend several months ago they weren't available in the US. Now, one of our favorite stores in LA, ReForm School, has started carrying them. Another thing we love about Ladak is that 15% of the cost of the blankets is donated to an Amsterdam shelter for the homeless. So you can share the warmth. >>>LADAK website >>>ReForm School website
