Architect Jack Viks designed this home which was built in 1960. It sits on nearly 4 acres in Lake Forest and is currently up for sale, but our interest is pure inspiration. Jump below for a glimpse at the great interiors:
According to the real estate listing, Jack Viks was a student of Mies Van Der Rohe. We love the open plan, walls of glass and ingenious curving room divider/spiral staircase. The selling price is $2.26M and it includes a second 1000 sq ft guest house.

Looks a little like Cameron's house.
I'm digging the National Geographic collection.
Looks like the lobby of a corporation on Sunday when its closed. Slick yet bland, lacks personality.
looks like the house from the movie The Ice Storm.
Which was also in Lake Forest, Art.
It's a great looking place and being from the North Shore, I'd kill to be able to afford this. 2.2 doesn't sound that bad, actually, all things considered. *smile*
Very nice, but a bit too museum-like. I assume the new owner can change that.
Oh, I love it. My son is currently a student at IIT in Chicago, where Mies taught. I bet Jack Viks was an alumnus. Beautiful, beautiful.
Wow - I love it
Wouldn't change much at all - it's beautiful as-is.
Absolutely beautiful in every way. The details are breathtaking, which is not surprising given Mies Van Der Rohe's philosophy regarding the importance of details.
Wow, I love this. So much light and space. Just seeing the photos makes me happy, but if I was inside I'd probably start doing cartwheels or something.
i usually love mid-century, but this feels a little stale
This is a wonderful property and invite you to tour it. I am the Realtor representing the property for sale, so please give me a call anytime at 312-371-0986. I specialize in mid-century modern properties and invite you to see more at www.modernproperty.com . Seeing it in person, you'll realize it's a warm and inviting space, very much integrated with nature all around. There are many interior details in wood and slate with a striking brick and steel structure. The price has been reduced to $1,800,000 including all of the land (nearly 4 acres), the house, pool, poolhouse, and garages for 8 cars!
