This inexpensive lamp DIY by Emily Henderson of HGTV's Secrets from a Stylist was constructed with spray paint, screws, a lamp kit and one surprising element… can you guess what it is?
Hula hoops! The childhood classic finds new life as the basis of this oversize pendant. Visit the Emily's blog for photos and instructions on how to put it all together.

Wonder how it looks close up.
Hula hoops?? Umm.. aren't they a bit larger than that light fixture? Either that's a giant light bulb, or some really tiny hula hoops. Do they come in miniature sizes now?
It's a giant (at least larger than normal) light bulb according to her blog. The picture doesn't show the top of the fixture where the cord is secured but it looks messy and cheap.
I'm just not crazy about bare light bulbs. haha, no matter how clever the fixture, bare bulbs rarely look good.
A friend of mine calls this sort of thing "DI WHY"

They do make kid-sizes hula hoops, often seen at dollar stores... Didn't research to see if that's what was used here.
I'm not fond of bare bulbs, either. Either the bulb needs to be dim enough not to hurt your eyes (and therefore not very useful, except for ambience) or it needs to be off all the time.
