We honestly never got on board the wall decals train until today. Local Melbourne lady, Lara Cameron, has collaborated with The Wall Sticker Company [who are also Melbourne based] to create a range of wall decals that are not only unique and gorgeous, they are also completely carbon neutral.
Lara is the co-owner of Ink & Spindle along with her partner in crime Tegan Rose. Aiming to minimize their impact on the environment, Ink & Spindle design and print all their fabric in their studio in Kensington using eco friendly inks, methods and materials. Lara was kind enough to give us some of her time to tell us more about the collaboration with The Wall Sticker Company.
What was your inspiration for this project?
I had always loved the idea of turning my designs into wall decals but it wasn't something I'd had time to pursue. So when Jen and Fi from The Wall Sticker Company got in touch with me it was the perfect opportunity!
What is your favorite element of this project?
I love the fact that we've developed something that will make people's homes just that little bit more cosy or exciting. Plus, seeing my designs in a different medium is fantastic – I'm so used to designing for textiles so seeing these designs in a different context breathes new life into them.
What was the biggest challenge of the collaboration?
Everything went really smoothly and Jen & Fi were really fantastic to work with on this. I reckon the biggest challenge we faced was squeezing design time in around the demands of Ink & Spindle. With a small business to run it was hard to find quiet time to sit and be creative and inspired. But we got there in the end!
Any other additional you want to share?
The range is all locally produced here in Melbourne and both of us are carbon neutral – yay!
