Laura & Nickolas' Transformable Loft

House Tour

Name: Laura Leigh Hofrichter & Nickolas Rossi
Location: Downtown — Los Angeles, California
Size: 1,100 square feet
Years lived in: 4½ — rented

Laura and Nickolas have opted to keep their loft wide open as they often rearrange and reinvent their space. Since Laura, an actress, and Nickolas, a cinematographer, both work in creative fields, they often transform their loft for different creative functions. It has doubled as a gallery, film screening room, and photo studio.

The couple prides themselves on the fact that they don't keep much stuff around and have furnished practically their entire space with found furniture. Most has come from previous tenants of their building. Some was actually in their space when they moved in, but mostly they have collected pieces from the hallways of their building. Unwanted furniture from past and present tenants decorates the four floors of hallways in Laura and Nickolas' building. (As I perused the halls, I was stunned by what I found. I came across some great art deco pieces). Though the loft does not include a full kitchen, Laura and Nickolas have perfected the art of microwave oven and hot plate cooking. It is truly impressive. As they live on the top floor, the most stunning aspect of the apartment would have to be the natural light that spills in through their French door windows. If you go one flight up to the roof, you can also get beautiful views of the city.
