Name: Lauren
Location: Kenwick Neighborhood, Lexington, Kentucky
Our home is over 90 years old and located just outside of downtown Lexington, Kentucky. My husband and I purchased our first home last July and have taken it from asian inspired (previous home owner) to a colorful and comfortable cottage with loads of original charm.
Every walll has been painted and almost every light fixture replaced. The kitchen was our first project which included painting the yellow and blue cabinets, replacing the blue/yellow tile countertops and backsplash with budget friendly Ikea countertops and sink and replacing the light fixtures and knobs. Everything in our house has a touch of aqua and green and everyone who vists comments that the colors are soothing and unlike anything else they have seen in Lexington.
We love to bring the outdoors in and have some type of bird in almost every room through accessories and art work. Of course our home is still a work in progress but we have repurposed many items ourselves with lots and paint and hard work.
Thanks, Lauren!

Ahh! So cheerful and lovely!
*emits glitter from fingertips*
Lovely. What's the soft green paint color in the kitchen (and elsewhere), please?
You have what looks to be a very lovely home. Congratulations on a job well done!
Lexington has some great architecture, very sweet house Lauren!
Sweet, lovely and intimate. (That's what cottages are for.) And your dog is a beauty.
So pretty! I love it.
I want to eat that whole kitchen!
I second the question about the soft green--sweet place!
Love that kitchen pendant light!
What a fabulous little cottage -- my current favorite kind of home.
house tour please!
lovely!
I love it! I also love seeing a house from Lexington, KY on here!!!
Yay for Lexington! I know this area well, I only live 10 min away!
Absolutely gorgeous and totally my cup of tea. More pics! More pics!
Yay! Lexington!
Looks like we may have a couple of LEX readers on AT. Meet-up!
Love it! What a cute place! I love what you've done with the fireplace.
Hi, this is Lauren the homeowner. I didn't realize AT would use these exact photos or I would have snapped some higher quality photos. Thanks for the sweet comments.
Paint- Green Chantilly by Pratt & Lambert. Took a while to get the right color, tried almost every light green on the market but highly recommend P&L because the coverage is amazing.
AT Lex readers- I would love to have a Lex meet-up. Maybe a mini tour of homes?
I love it--this is very similar to my own style. Wish I could see more!
Maybe some other AT readers can clue me in, as I'm fairly new here--what determines whether places are featured as house tours, or house calls?
It's really adorable! Nice work-- it's feminine but simple and cleanly done.
I agree... more please!! I vote house tour!
How nice to see a home from my town here. Great job.
Lauren very lovely and feels like a home:) My family lives in that area too and there are so many wonderful old homes with character.
A house tour would be wonderful:)
Please also let us know what that blue color in the bedroom is!
Hello, adorable!
Cute home, it reminds me of a cupcake! Your husband must be so agreeable and kind lol
kenwick scares me. i lived on preston ave when i was freshly 21 and it was likely the worst living situation of my entire life. that being said, there are TONS of unique and beautiful houses in the area and it's a great place for young couples to get a start with their first home.
Hi, Lauren the homeowner again. The blue is Vintage Map by Martha Stewart when her paint was at Lowe's. My favorite turquoise blue and highly recommend the color. MS paint is now at Home Depot so I assume they have something very similar if not the same.
House Tour! This is lovely!
Lauren, I love the idea of repurposing the headboard and turning it into a pin-up board. Could you share with us how you did it? I have a desk in the bedroom and I've been wanting to create some kind of pin-up board but haven't come across anything that caught my eye...until your lovely idea.
Love the fresh colors in your beautiful home. I also live in Lexington - nice surprise to see this post on AT.
Super cute. Thanks for sharing.
@gamosa-The bulletin board is actually a mirror from a dresser that I found at the Nashville Flea Market. Awesome flea market if you're ever in the area.
I've been in debate about whether to paint the wood. I simply purchased cork, cut to fit the frame then used spray adhesive to attach fabric.
Feel free to email me at laurenthightower at gmail.com if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
