Name: Lauren
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Type of Home: rental studio apartment
Color Inspiration: I live in an L-shaped studio with my boyfriend. These photos show our living room/dining alcove space. Since we don't have separate rooms in our apartment, I didn't want to use a strong paint color. Instead I opted to use a more neutral light gray paint and let the furnishings bring color to the room.

Color Inspiration continued: It's a challenge making the space flow since we do not have dividing walls. You always run the risk of trying to cram too much into a small space. We have eclectic taste, so it is a matter of finding the right balance.
Colors Used: Sofa - Room and Board "Hutton" Sofa in "Indigo"
Wall Paint - Benjamin Moore "Classic Gray"
Color Tip: I'm a big fan of bright neutral walls to compliment colorful objects and furnishings. Perhaps if I had more natural light in my living room I would use a stronger color on the walls. But I like objects that have a lot of personality.

great use of space!
ok, it's working now!
Where did you get the rug? It's fabulous
Love love ur space!!! Can u tell me where you got the TV console from?
Beutiful!!! I would never think to put the sofa and carpet together, but I absolutely love the way it looks.
This looks so great!
Thanks for all the compliments! The rug and the credenza are both the result of me obsessively searching ebay and craigslist. The credenza was only $150 and the rug cost about the same. I definitely have to work on a budget, but I enjoy the hunt!
You've got such style ... now, please come decorate our house in the FL countryside.
I love the dirt bike painting!
I was drooling over that very sofa the last time I was in R&B. It looks beautiful in your space.
I love it! Adopt me!
Oh that rug... GORGEOUS.
Great ebay and craigslist finds! I just don't have the patience for it finding any good stuff there, much to my detriment.
This apartment is the shit
Love the mid century mix, the way the space is divided and use of color and pattern. Great!
Beautiful apartment! Love that sofa!
Major sofa envy. I love the femininity of this place, it doesn't go over board.
LOOOOOOVE the sofa.
Flowered wallpaper is starting to grow on me, or is it just getting cuter? This is a great space.
Meh. Don't love the white walls with that wall paper. A paper bag brown wall would make those deep shades sing.
Medusa12120, I agree a brown could be pretty with the wallpaper. Unfortunately, with no separating walls between the dining area and the living room, I'm afraid it would be too much. I don't want it to end up looking like a clown house (it's happened to me before in an old apartment!). If I had a separate space for the table that didn't open directly onto everything else I would have definitely gone with a different color or even wallpapered the whole room. My main goal was that the wallpaper would create a homey space for eating. Thanks for the suggestion though.
There are so many great spaces being posted in this competition. It definitely inspires me and also makes me envious of people with nice architectural details in their apartments. I would love to have exposed brick or even (gasp!) windows to work with in my living room area. Anyway, thanks for all the comments!
Love the deep indigo of the couch and the grouping of oriental pieces on the stereo below the painting -- the yellow of which breaks up the harmony of blues and purples in a way that's nicely refreshing to the eye. That's a cool painting!
*Sigh* Suddenly the earthy, rich golds and oranges in my living room that yesterday I adored seem very tired. I would be willing to redecorate my entire home around that couch:)
Love the painting and the wallpaper! I appreciate how you've paired more feminine objects with some more risky funky pieces like the painting. Great!
I like your coffee table, where did you get it? I think you have some nice things in your home, but I am not convinced about the wall paper.....
