- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Color! The only rule is if I like it, it works - tequila green dressing area, true red kitchen, multiple shades on one slipper chair and bright raspberry on the other - both with bright red pillows. I even organized my bookshelves by color. There are four closets - amazing for a studio! I love that most people who visit for the first time want to know where the bedroom is and are shocked to see it fold up into the wall. The neighborhood is perfect, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of New York but close enough to everything I need.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- My living area has a single source of natural light at the far end, and the biggest challenge was to make the space do all that I wanted without sacrificing one bit of that. Requirements: a cozy retreat after long work days, entertaining flow, an area for drawing/painting, and a supportive mattress to sleep on. I solved the challenge by dividing the space visually, using mirrored surfaces to amplify light, and going with a Murphy bed. There are clear entry, living, dining and sleep areas. My dining table functions as a work space when necessary, has a glass top for easy cleanup, and seats six. Upholstered x-benches are decorative and can be easily moved wherever they are needed for extra seating. I pop a large, low drawer from a flea market over one and it becomes a low table for drinks and snacks.

This is very grown up. Great use of color. Excellent use of space. Well edited.
I love what you did to the entrance. So glamorous!!
That mirror! Love, love, love the use of color!
Love the warm lighting and the fun use of color. Inspirational.
BTW - The "Favorite" button isn't working. I tried 3 times.
I can't vote. The button is not working.
Button would not work for me either!
I think it's great! I also tried to favorite it, but the button isn't working for me either.
Any ideas on where to get such awesome slipper chairs?
I love this; unfortunately, the favorite button does not work. :(
i love it!! so girly and sophisticated!...,. i do like it even though it´s not really my style! the favourite button is still not working!!!
Help me somebody! I don't get it...where is the murphy bed? Where's Waldo? Have I gone blind?
BUTTON WORKING NOW!!!
hi everyone - voting is working - please try again and thanks!
Sorry about the broken favorite button--it's fixed now!
I would have loved to see the bedroom area, but I like your place. I am trying to decide if you have money and can afford high end pieces, or if you are just damn good at finding jewels. I love the glitzy feel of your space!
Love, Love, Love.
@sweetrosiebrown, I think the bed is folded up, that's why we don't see it.
Amazing use of space. Very chic
Can you get the fridge door open? Looks like it would only open part of the way before colliding with the cabinets.
Gorgeous. Love the decor. Would have liked to see what it looked like with the bed.
Very, very nice. I can only imagine what you would do with a larger space, you have great taste.
Oh, your place is so warm and inviting! Love it!!
Love the ideal of a drawer for a small space coffee table. Great, flexible use of space.
I love it, Lauren! So sophisticated!
Totally love the decor and how you have so effectively combined the modern with the traditional. Good luck!
Great colors, love the chairs and lighting !
Obviously, the rule works :)
I WANT TO LIVE HERE. So Chic!!
Great use of space and color!
Love everything and the colors, you can be my decorator!
Salma
good luck
great job!
I liked the Bruce Springsteen poster, it added extra pizzzazzzz...
LOVE LOVE LOVE Lauren's apartment every time I go there! She's also a fab hostess :)
Great Job
Great apartment and terrific colors! Where did you get your Murphy bed? Is it in the raised area of the apartment?
Warm and full of life! Also love the mirror!!!
Good Luck!
Love love all the colors!!!
I'm guessing the murphy bed is tucked into/behind the book cases.
Love this space! Where did you get the 3 mirrors by your door?
I can't tell where the bed is - plus the kitchen seems a bit funny. It honestly doesn't look like anyone lives here. Why not used the raised area for an actual bedroom.
I'm kinda with GREENWOODGAL, I'm still confused on the location of the murphy bed. I don't think it can be behind the bookshelves because how would it fold down? She surely doesn't take everything off the shelves each night. I think it must be to the right of the bookshelves on that wall we don't have a clear picture of. Si o no?
Lauren: It's wonderful style! When can you help me..ToniB
Hi Everyone-
Thank you so much for all of your lovely comments:) I'd love to answer some of your questions:
To Greenwoodgal & SweetRosieBrown: I swear I live there! In picture number three you can see a sliver of my bed. I'm particularly neat and put my bed up every morning before work. I'd love to one day have an actual bed, but for the time being this is what works for me!
To Heather C: I got my three mirrors off of CSN Stores (now I believe this is Wayfair) last July. I did quite a bit of searching to find that collection on their site!
To Caseyinto: My apartment has been a labor of love for the last three years. I've slowly but surely gathered different furniture pieces, as well as odds and ends that I know I will have for a very long time. I found my chandelier online for a great price and put it together myself. The books have been acquired over time - I get a lot of samples from my job.
I really appreciate your votes. Have a great weekend! Best, Lauren
Absolutely the BEST !!!!!! Wonderfully done ... colors are dynamic .... !!! Everything has a place ... just a well thought out studio which says "It's great to be home" !!!! You have my vote .. good luck.

Thanks for 'splainin', Lauren. I had sorta/kinda figured out where the bed was the closer I looked at the pics. Let me just say, I'm envious of your particular neatness! When I lived in a studio my sofa bed was more bed than sofa ... meaning I would leave it opened for days and loll around on it like a mental patient... but I've shared too much. I didn't mean to imply that your place wasn't darling. It 'tis. I think you have great style and I really like the bookshelves and the way you've incorporated the television in them so that the wall doesn't scream FLAT SCREEN! Thanks for the clarification and good luck! I'm going to channel your neatness now and go clean out a closet! Maybe later....;)
Oh, by the way .... are you a designer by trade? Ya oughta ...
Tres Chic ! J'ai vraiment l'aimer.

Absolutely love this. Where did you get that green paint from?
To BOCONNOR8675: Thank you and here is a link to the color: http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/tequilalime
