Q: My boyfriend and I just rented a smallish one bedroom apartment in Washington, DC. We don't have any furnishings and are starting from scratch and decorating on an equally smallish budget. The living and dining space are combined, and I want to maximize our area to feel open and inviting. I would love to have a long dining table to entertain friends, but I'm not sure if one will work in the space we have. My questions are:

  1. What kind of dining table should we buy? Where would you put it?
  2. How would you arrange a couch and other furniture in the apartment to give it a nice flow and make entertaining easy?
  3. Where would you put the TV?

Thanks Apartment Therapy readers! Any design tips are greatly appreciated!!
