We've looked at using basic pine crates as modular units for storage and we had a number of February Jumpstart projects that creatively re-purposed wine crates. These crates from Sibylle Stoeckli were designed to celebrate the simplicity of the crate — but to also give it a new twist— inspiring creativity in the home...
Inspired by grocer's crates, the designer envisions these trapezoidal crates used as a footstool, low tables, shelving ... or just as a crate.

great idea, but i wonder how sturdy they are. crates are usually pretty flimsy.
