August Escape: Boston to New York for a Buck

Anyone taken the BoltBus yet? How was the ride? Two of our friends tried it from Boston to NY a few weeks ago and assured us that despite the almost-too-good-to-be-true low $1 price, there were comfortable seats and free wi-fi the whole route...

Boltbus is operated by Greyhound, and it dips their toe into the low-cost bus market, competing with cheaper bus lines such as Fung Wah. The further in advance you buy your tickets online (there are no ticket counters or 800#), the cheaper they cost. If you buy way ahead, you get to go round trip from Boston to NY for two bucks (well, something like $3 after fees and taxes). The Boltbus has free wireless, less seats than a typical bus (more legroom), and even electrical outlets on the back of each seat.

The cat's been out of the bag for this bus almost since it started running this spring, and when we checked last night you had to reserve your trip 6 weeks in advance to reserve the $1 fare. You can even continue on from NY to DC or Philly for a buck more. It's a wonderfully inexpensive August getaway.
