Merging technology and biorhythms, graduate student, Wendy Legro, designed this LED 'Morning Glory Flower' to open and close in response to the rise and fall of the sun. Placed in a window, the closed flower lets natural light stream through, as the sun sets, the flower slowly opens, covers the window and emits light. The product is beautiful, unique and thought-provoking. Check out an animation of the flower cycle, after the jump.
Legro feels that our biological clocks have been disrupted by the use of artifical light, and wants to bring back the use of natural light, highlighting it with an ever changing and growing 'morning glory.' The product works via a light sensor: during the day, the mechanical flower is closed allowing sunlight to shine through; when sun sets, the flower opens, covers the window and emits light via LEDs.
