Most of these lights lack the warmth and character of traditional lamps. Instead, they often look eerily futuristic or dull. LED design might still be playing catch-up, but in the meantime, here are some good looking, energy efficient, alternatives to incandescent lamps.
Just a few reasons to switch to LED:
• LEDs produce more light per watt than incandescent bulbs.
• LEDs last a long time– twice as long as fluorescent bulbs and twenty times longer than incandescent bulbs.
• LEDs light up very quickly.
• LEDs generate very little heat.
• Unlike incandescent lamps that turn yellow when dimmed, LED lights do not change their color when the wattage is lowered.
• LED light is more focused and can be used to provide light to a specific area without the need of an external reflector (usually a shade).

That Bettylou lamp is pretty cool for a small little mood light. Can go anywhere since it is cordless.
We recently got the $10 flex-neck LED lamps at Ikea and am very pleased with the color and brightness of the light. Doesn't look bad either.
YLighting has some great LED lights, too: YLighting
I have the Leaf Lamp and it's really great. The ability to adjust the color temperature of the light, from an incandescent-ish golden hue to a bright blue-white, is more useful than I thought it would be.
The one negative is that the LEDs, although covered by a translucent shroud, don't have a shade. With the lamp on high brightness and above eye level, there can be some annoying glare.
I love the LED Lamps! We have the Pablo Link Task Lamp and I can recommend it. Though the Pablo is $380 it can be a bit steep in price. We also have the IMG Lighting Beacon Desk Lamps which is solidly bright and has dual warm and cool LEDs so the light is more natural. =) Just check the lamps before you buy for how much brightness they give out. LED right now some are notorious for being good to look at, but aren't bright.
