The best thing about living small is the simplicity. Since the big purge, I only own things I really use and/or that bring me joy, and they're all easily accessible, not shoved away in a closet somewhere. I didn't realize that owning too much stuff was cluttering my mind as well as my home.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
I read so much about living small before I moved in! The tips I learned that worked best for me: Keep things light and airy. I kept the walls white and chose white wardrobes, white bedding, and lots of white photo frames so things would visually blend into one another and expand, rather than feeling heavy and busy. Use furniture that does double duty. I keep craft materials, DVDs, office supplies etc. in the "buffet" and the old stereo cabinet is hollow and stores all the art that's not currently on the walls. Find a good layout app (I used Mark on Call). This completely saved me in terms of knowing which furniture pieces could come with me when I moved into this space and which had to go (some of my furniture-like a beloved coffee table- is being "fostered" by friends until I can use it again!)
