Location: Greenwood, Virginia
We are only the second family to live in an old farmhouse, built in 1880, and an integral part in the development if the town of Greenwood, Va. The house was intact, but in sad, neglected shape when we moved in, as a rental nine years ago.
Our landlord had much of the big stuff done; floors refinished, new plumbing, and bathrooms installed. We bought the house one year later.
Over the last 8 years, this house has been both the bane of my existence and my salvation. Having lost both of my parents over the last 5 years, renovating and restoring the life to this house has brought me great comfort and given me something to do with my hands...a remedy I have found for grief.
In the meantime, in addition to having taught myself how to install tile floors and repair a toilet, I have (re) discovered my love for painting and a pretty good career as an artist has evolved.
Our children are 12, 15 and 16 and and have grown up here...in the country...and though I would not call us outdoorsy folk,we are grateful for the natural beauty which surrounds us.
