With March well underway, the days are getting longer and the weather warmer. Spring is just around the corner! Sadly, as glossy plastics and metals abound in gadgetry, our workspaces run the risk of feeling cold and inorganic. To liven up the world of tech, we've collected a handful of ways to capture spring's bloom.Plant something!
With limited space and sunlight, the average 9-5 cubicle is not the friendliest environment for a plant. Thankfully there are air plants, formally called Tillandsia, which require minimal light and water for survival. These wonderful sprouts don't even need soil, so they can live in just about anything, from a simple teacup to a colorful dinosaur. If you're feeling creative, consider repurposing a retired gadget's casing, like the G4 Cube Terrarium we shared in 2009. When you're ready to get started, Air Plant Supply Co. looks to be a great resource for buying a variety of Tillandsia, as well as learning about their care.
Grab a few nature-inspired office essentials
Air plants make a great addition to your workspace, but what to do with your basic office supplies? For starters, tidy up cables with nature-inspired Leaf Ties from Lufdesign or Leaf Earphone Organizers from mochithings. Replace your standard sticky notes with Appree's gorgeous Leaf-its, which are available in a variety of elegant flower and leaf designs. Your laptop will feel at home in a bamboo "puzzle" stand from GreenTunaDesign. Lastly, try decorating your workspace with a Puxxle, which portrays an animal or nature theme in tech-friendly pixel art!
Keep the world in your pocket
The technology you carry with you every day can be an excellent portal into nature, and more importantly, could even help you explore its bounty. Project Noah is an extraordinary tool for encouraging wildlife exploration. The iPhone and Android apps offer missions to find and photograph local fauna and flora, as well as the ability to contribute to scientific research. It's a great way to not only bring nature to your tech, but to bring your tech to nature as well.
