Do you have allergies and pets? The LG Steamwasher may be able to help, with its exclusive Allergiene allergen reduction cycle. We read a bit about it and found that the effectiveness of the special cycle is even backed by an independent non-profit foundation dedicated to helping consumers and patients with asthma and allergic diseases...
LG states that Allergiene removes at least 95% of pet dander and dust mites. The Allergiene function introduces steam to the wash cycle at a temperature that kills common household allergens. The cycle makes LG's SteamWasher the first washing machine to be certified asthma and allergy friendly by the non-profit Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
The pricetag? At least $1,300. If you don't have allergies or you're skeptical of Allergiene's effectiveness, you might also want to know that the SteamWasher has the largest capacity of any washer on the market, at 4.2 cubic feet. Read more on Allergiene at Appliancist. Do any of our readers own a SteamWasher with the Allergiene function? If so, how has it worked for you?

Wouldn't this only apply to fabrics that you can wash in hot water?
This is awesome.
Great for bedsheets and towels!
Their washer/dryer combo has this feature too.
One thing to consider when buying a less common brand of appliance is how difficult is it going to be to find someone certified to repair it. My parents were looking at the LGs and could only find one repair person who was about 100 miles away. They passed on them and went for the Kenmore Elite knowing Sears repair is prevalent.
I have the LG - though not with the fancy digital screen - but it does have the allergiene setting on it. I just went upstairs to check, because it has so many buttons a do-dads I honestly have no idea what half of them are or how to use them. Now that i read this though, I'm gonna read the manual and wash my baby's linen with it.
I'll say this for the machine:
1. It washes beautifully. Regular HE detergent in a huge load and the clothes come out brighter than I've ever noticed in other machines.
2. With regards to LilyC's comment - I had issues with it leaking so I called the number on the sticker on the machine (they put their number everywhere for easy use). The people were knowledgeable and friendly. They told me that the leaking was likely an install issue, and while they don't handle install issues, they do send out for repairs or performance issues. I told them it was NOT an install issue, that 2 different contractors had looked at it and it was the machine. They sent an LG repair man to my home 2 days later. Seems the guy who installed it for me never removed the shipping bolts. That's an install issue. But they just fixed it, tested it and were on their way. I really have no complaints.
I would get these just for that killer raspberry color.
wow, I dream of these babies.
Sounds like they have great service too.
