The other day I wrote a post for TheKitchn about my new food processor. I poured my heart out and admitted that I don't know how I lived life before it came into my life. After writing that, I got thinking — there's another luxury item in my home that I just don't want to know life without.

A few months ago I was fortunate enough to do a review of the Moxi HD DVR. I might've mentioned that I couldn't imagine living without it, but I didn't really dive into why I was making such a huge statement.
If you have a DVR, you know what I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge TV addict (for your information, the TV isn't even on right now) but I do enjoy curling up on the couch with my fiance and watching Top Chef every week (well, and a few more shows too). What I don't enjoy, commercials. I've always been the one to mute commercials before DVR, but now I don't have to — I can fast forward. Sometimes I purposely miss the original air date of shows I record so that I have the ability to fast forward through the commercials when I do eventually watch it.
I don't want to know tv (or life) without my DVR. When I have to watch TV sans DVR it's not nearly enjoyable and I find myself getting bored or frustrated that there are ten commercials each break. I also like knowing that while I'm watching one show, three others can be recording. We all know that there are peek hours of TV and it seems that most networks pack that hour with their best shows. What if we want to watch them all? I refuse to turn into my parents and constantly flip back and forth. No sir! That's what my wonderful DVR is for!

I had a DVR and thought I couldn't live without, until I got rid of it and cable too, for that matter...
Netflix and Hulu have made both irrelevant for me. The thing I can't imagine living without it high speed Internet.
I live in the Netherlands, we never got Tivo, but DVR has started to catch on in the last few years because it is bundled in most cable boxes for HDtv or just digital TV. Although most people love emm I hate the tuners and EPG in those boxes, because they are way to slow, so I'm still on analog.
I'm watching most of my television from behind my laptop, because I prefer American TV over Dutch TV. I have to download episodes from ,let say, third party websites, because I'm region locked out of Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Itunes US store, etc etc etc. If they allowed me to I'd gladly go for the Netflix Hulu plus combo. I mean I've got an xbox 360 and playstation 3 that can handle them, I'd love to be able to use boxee to its full potential.
