Light It Up: DIY Dot Image Nightlight

I love night lights because they can be so many things at once: a comfort to your child, an extra light source in a room, and of course, a beautiful design element in their own right. There are lots of choices out there, and plenty of DIYs, but I love the almost pixelated look of this project that uses drilled holes to form an image.

Matt at The DIY Village created this night light for his daughter's room, using a color changing LED strip for the inside. With his design, you get the light from the drilled holes as well as a diffused glow coming from the back. It's simple enough to create your own image and mark holes around it, but if you love the elephant, Matt provides that template on his site. By painting the front of your wooden box, it provides a nice design piece when the lights are on, too.
