Control Bulb: 40-watt GE Reveal incandescent
Primary Use: Living room
Time of Day Tested: 5 p.m.
How It Performed: This CFL bulb emits a sharp focus bluish white light. After having tested the Sylvania Living Spaces CFL and finding that a compact fluorescent bulb can be used in an ambient setting, I decided to put the EcoSmart Daylight to the same test. I knew that the Daylight bulb would produce a whiter rather than yellower light than the Sylvania Living bulb simply from the description on the box, but I was curious if it would be a comfortable type of white light acceptable for a living room setting. It is not. The effect it had on my living room, as the judges on Project Runway would say, was "sad."
I quickly transfered bulb to my bathroom where I discovered where this bulb's true strengths lay. While the light is not exactly soothing, here the crisp blue/white light it emits is to my benefit. For the first time, I can see colors accurately when I am using the mirror. This makes getting ready in the morning much easier. I can also see how this would be a very good bulb for task work such as in a garage or for sewing.
