Q: My brother just bought a 100 year old home in San Francisco. It has a lot of character and needs some work. He is first tackling one of the bathrooms. It is a traditional Victorian split. The sink and toliet are on one side and the shower is separated. His wife and I voted to keep it as a split. The issue is that the shower is dark. There is a large window on the sink side. I suggested an interior window or something like glass blocks between the two, likely up high and frosted. Has anyone done something similar and could provide a linked image?

I am also looking for recommends on where to find a suitable type of interior window? Or alternatives. Glass blocks are not my preferred suggestion. Also worth noting all the tile will be redone, new fixtures and new doors.

I don't really know what a split is. My vote is to keep the pink and black tile, whatever you do.
I've seen it done on DIY Bathtastic. I'll find the episode later tonight.
Depending on what floor the bathroom is on, you could do a small skylight. If thats not an option, id say do a glass window or wall thats semi transparent. You're totally right about keeping the split though. It's so great having a bathroom where the toilet and shower/bath can be used simultaneously AND privately.
A window between the two stalls would definitely look lovely and maintain that Victorian "charm" in the house of having a separate shower room.
I've always found that part of traditional Victorian homes irritating, personally, but it seems wrong to take it out of a historic residence.
I like a light in a shower stall. And also a fan. I have a fan/light combo in my shower stall and it is terrific. It's tricky to install but once there, makes cleaning up a cinch. You can put the switch on a timer.
The episode is Season 3 Beyond Brown. Enjoy!
You could do a regular window and seal it but with smoked glass for light and privacy.
we had the split and we took it out. The toilet/sink half was so dark and it is TOTALLY worth giving up the separation. The idea of two people using the bathroom at the same time is nice, but the truth is it never happens

When I lived in an apartment with a split, it happened all the time.
I like the suggestion of doing a regular sealed window with smoked glass (probably because I hate those glass blocks).

They are taking out that awesome tiles? That is crazy talk. That tile is fantastic.
why not use a sola tube ...
i vote for an electric light. natural light is great, until it's dark outside... and then you'd be relying on the electric light from the other bathroom, filtered through something opaque? doesn't seem efficient!
With the glass block option we have certainly done many of these application - both what I would call a "shower wall insert" (we actually was involved with supplying a frosted cinnamon colored glass blocks for a project for DIY show Bathtastiks) and a glass block wall between areas in a bathroom. I'll include a link to a glass block shower and frosted glass block pages to give you some ideas:
