At High Point, we had the pleasure of talking with Skye Kirby Westcott, the energetic VP of Stores & Marketing at Lillian August. She's been busy this past year, opening a new store in New York, publishing the brand's annual magazine, and keeping up with the retail, trade, and interior design arms of the Connecticut-based company.
A little bit of background on the company: Lillian August is a textile and pattern designer who launched her career in New York City in the mid-80s. In 1987, her two sons — Dan and John Weiss — helped her open her first brick and mortar store in Westport, Connecticut.
The store still stands today, and it's grown into five locations across the country: three in Connecticut, one in Manhattan (opened December 2010), and one showroom within HD Buttercup in Los Angeles. Lillian still oversees product development and creative direction, while Dan and John manage operations.
Lillian August is a full-service company, providing everything from one-to-one retail sales to whole-home interior design. They have a core group of full-time designers on staff, as well as a network of trade and design professionals across the US.
The aesthetic is wide-ranging and reflective of their diverse clients. While the High Point showroom has a very traditional look, their New York store is full of industrial and vintage finds, and their furniture collections range from farmhouse style to modern classics.
