- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Funny as it may seem, the feature that attracted us to our home is the feature that many would consider a deterrent, the ceiling mounted radiators. We love that they free up some floor space plus add a cool industrial feeling to our cozy garden dwelling. Additionally, we couldn't live without our full size windows... a rarity for garden apartments. They allow plenty of light to flood in and create warm pockets for our dogs to bask away their days. Ultimately, the thing that we love most is that we have been able to personalize our space to reflect who we are. We both continue to be inspired by the southwest and have collected many pieces that remind us of wonderful times in New Mexico.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- The biggest challenge we have seems to be a common one amongst the “small cool” group, lack of closet/storage space. Although we do have a storage locker, we still feel as though we are bursting at the seams. The way we manage this challenge is by purging our closets at least twice a year. Living in a smaller home forces you to evaluate what is truly a necessity and what you can live without.

one vote for the dog - sweetie!
Digging the color on the walls! Please share what it is :-)
I really like the colors in the bedroom!
Great space and I love the wall color too!!!
Love this space! Color is wonderful & that shelving in your dining room is spectacular! Where did you get it from?
Does having radiators on the ceiling give you a hot head and cold feet....?
What a Great place! i want to live here.
Per.fec.tion! Beautiful walls. perfect placement of furniture. Could you tell us about the chrome and (it looks like) leather chairs in photo # 3?
Truly a success.
Love it a lot! Favorited from a fellow Chicagoan.
I love everything about this apartment; the color, the dogs, the cactus on the nightstand and especially the camel toe art in the bedroom :-)
You got my vote!
I love your apartment overall, but a couple of small touches really caught by eye - the way you've stored your beans and grains (in uniform recycled juice bottles? brilliant!) and the sweet photo booth framed picture with text on the bedroom wall.
I loved the dining room! i'm going to steal that bookcase idea
I want to see the garden! (Lovely place!)
Lovely plants.
Where can I find the rug in the living room? I have a grey couch similar to this and am looking for a rug and love the contrast.
Two cute doggies pictured?? Somebody wants to win. :)
It's really so great to read comments and see everyone's different opinions on things in this contest! Personally, I LOVE the huge #9 on the wall (where did you find it?). Great job, the entire apartment looks amazing.
Wow, it is so exciting for us to see our place on Apartment Therapy!!! What is even more exciting is all the positive feedback! It is great to be able to share our space!
To answer some of your questions….
@SHANAEBOUCHARD The paint colors are all Valspar, the living room is Turkish Coffee and the dining room in Tornado Watch. I will have to get back to you on the bedroom color, the paint can is buried deep in storage! I will post as soon as I can fish it out.
@XEROCADEZ I am glad you asked about the chrome chairs. I had my eye on them for quite some time and when they popped up at a vintage shop in my neighborhood I had to have them!!! But when I got there, they were gone. About a week later our great friends T + M gifted them to me for my Birthday!!! Best surprise ever. I had them reupholstered with Faux Alligator. I am unsure of the origin of the chair, but I like to think they are in the spirit of Gilbert Rhode.
@RK The source for the pipe shelving, and tons of other inspiration is www.The-Brick-House.com. Love this blog!
@SAUCEFIND You are clever!!! I laughed out loud
@BLONDREA We’d love to show you our garden as soon as it’s planted for spring/summer!
@JHAGEMANN The rug is from Overstock.com. I know, we were shocked too!
@CRAFTYFATALIST We found the huge #9 at Edgewater Antique Mall on Broadway. I have also seen similar numbers at Foursided in Andersonville.
Thanks J + C for helping us out and taking some great photos!!!
PS. The dogs are flattered by all of your compliments.
Love the place :) My favorite of course!
I would love a full house tour of this one!!! And please feature more pictures of your beautiful spaniel. <3
I covet your striped blanket.
Love the color. Gray is GRAAAAYYYYYTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!
i love literally everything about your living room and dining room. so many great details, and the colors are perfect.
my only suggestion is to put an area rug under the bed to make the room more cozy.
I love the living and dining spaces! They're beautiful. And your dog is so adorable!
Love your bedroom!
"C" for camel toe poster! love your place, love your sense of humour.
Great job and some very cool ideas.Where did you find that door/mirror?? Wish you could help design my store.
Where did you get that gorgeous shelving unit in the dining room? Is it DIY?
Absolutely georgeous!!!! I need you to fix up my place.....PLEASE!!!!!
I really like the design aesthetic and clean lines... although I have to say that 700sq feet is in no way a small space!! (To add some context... I rent a 'typical' bachelor studio in Hong Kong... 180sq ft!)
Where is the sofa from?
@NBN_ The sofa is "The Townsend" from Room and Board, but we were lucky enough to score it from Craigslist.
