Name: Lisa
Location: Crestview — Austin, Texas
Our home was originally built in 1955, in an area of town that is commonly thought of as a time capsule of mid-century Austin. There is an independent grocery store, pharmacy, deli, and barber in the heart of the neighborhood and the homes average between 1200-1500 square feet.
It can be a challenge to keep a home of this size clean and organized, with two busy adults, a growing toddler, and a dog, but with bins and baskets hidden away throughout the house, it helps. It also helps that our son's bedroom doubles as his play area, keeping stray toys from wandering around and taking over the rest of the house.
One of our favorite features of the house is the wallpaper in the hallway, which can be seen from every room in the house. Another favorite is the wall of books in our living room, bringing a lot of color and personality to the space.
When we bought the house, there was a very strong urge to buy everything at once and finish the decorating process. But I knew that the homes I have visited and enjoyed the most were not the ones that had everything perfectly matched; they were not the ones that looked like model homes. My favorite homes were those that were layered with the homeowner's memories, travels, tastes, and dreams, and that was the kind of home I wanted to have. I think when people visit our house, they know right away that it is ours.

Full Tour, Please. Include Bookcase Details.
Loving this! Need more please! :)
Whoa! I grew up in a house in Crestview. Our hallway had the exact same footprint, too. It's neat to see how people have been restoring these cool 50's houses. A full house tour would be great!
I want more pics too. Is the hall light fixture original to the house? If not, source? And are those ikea bookshelves? Love the look of the couch up against wall of bookshelves.
Love the third photo's vignette! So adorable! Your home is gorgeous.
Full tour please!
This is gorgeous! I want details on the wall of shelves behind the couch! That is so darn wonderful!
ht please!
That owl -- is it a creamer? -- it's adorable! Love the vignettes.
Are the nightstands Ikea Rast hacks?
I was going to ask the same thing about the night stands - i just bought a couple of Rasts and am going to do something similar - also where did you get the hallway light, I love it.
Full tour!
I agree, a full tour, please!
Your (the homeowner) description of your home (layers, reflective of your travels, experiences, etc) is exactly how a home should be. I love that you have done this so creatively and shared it with us all. It was a pleasure to read and click through the pics.
House Tour, please! The wallpaper is beautiful and that hallway light is a gem. Source?
agree with all - beautiful and full tour please! and...love the hall light too and wallpaper. would love to see more
really would like to know the source of the hallway light fixture too! love the house!
Thanks for all the kind comments!
For those who are interested, the hallway light fixture is Anemone by Robert Abbey. I found it at a local lighting store, but you can find it online easily. The bookshelves in the living room are 4 Ikea Expedits that are stacked and bolted to the wall, and the nightstands are indeed Ikea Rast hacks. The wallpaper is Asuka by Little & Osborne, and the owl is actually a teapot that comes with matching teacups.
Where did you get your canvas artwork and the green stool/side table? I love the colors!
tour! tour! tour!
I'd love to see more!
add me to the list - i would like to see more. thanks
I really appreciate the hallway. It looks like a dark hallway, and the wallpaper and white doors and beadboard and lightfixture all perk it up and make it a cool place to be.
More pictures for sure.
I also like your color palette. Cohesive and calm. I'd like to know the wall paint colors that you have chosen.
Thanks for the lighting source Lisa!
@ wb10019 - the artwork is a piece I made when I couldn't find anything with the colors I wanted. And the stool/side table is a Craigslist find.
Where'd that rug come from?
