- What I Love About My Small Home:
- The painted wood walls, reclaimed long leaf pine floors, antique doors, vaulted ceilings, and master bath are by far our favorite features and living one mile from the oldest dance hall in Texas is tons of fun. We also love the use of space. Details like drawers incorporated into the stairs, built-ins, and spiral stairs increase valuable living space and keep our home clutter-free. Our cute little house goes against the Texas grain.... everything is not bigger in Texas!
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Fitting a family of four into such a small footprint is our greatest challenge. We have a great master suite we can retreat to when a little quiet time is in order and our screen porch off the living room is a life saver. I can say that living in such a small space has brought our family closer together.

THE FLOOOOOOOOORS
WOW. I absolutely love everything you have done with it. I wish I could see more photos! Can you please rent this out when you're out of town so I can stay there!? ;) Congrats on creating a beautiful space for your family.
I want your floors and that cow painting!!! MOOOO-tiful!!!!!!!!!
this is wonderful. love everything about it. like the most ideal vacation home.
House tour please!!
GORGEOUS. Those floors are a work of art and that bath is a dream.
i would love to see a full house tour. love the warmth of all the painted wood and those floors are amazing!
Love love love! Those floors. This place is amazing!
What a great job you've done. It looks as if a family of four would be very well able to use and enjoy this space. So many people do so much less with more space. You seem to have everything under control. This is a great example for small cool.
I'm usually not into "rustic" style, but this is done very well. Nice job! The kitchen is my favorite. To chime in with everyone else....the floors are AWESOME. Full house tour please!
Four people! I wish there was a pic of the upstairs bedroom. Lovely space.
Great space, especially the bedroom. Where are the dressers from?
This is just so cool in so many different ways!
Just wonderful.
I'm not crazy about the living room decor, but I think the architecture of the place is wonderful.
i LOVE this layout!!!!
<3 the floors are amazing!! And I must say I miss New Braunfels! Used to live in Austin, and I spend many summers at Schlitterbhann!
I just had to favorite this one! I graduated from high school in NB, live in the Austin area now and travel back often. In fact, I will be in NB tomorrow! What a cute space- love the floors, the bead board, and the rustic feel.
I love this place. Add my voice to the chorus: THE FLOORS! THE FLOORS! That came out all Eliza Doolittle...
Yes, YES, the floors! And the vaulted ceilings and wooden beams. And the soothing, fresh color scheme. Just lovely!
This must be a great place to live. Practical and pretty. House Tour please!
Ah-MAZ-ing! I don't think I'm alone requesting a House Tour. Bar none, my favorite ever!
the floors...! can you walk on them in bare feet and not get splinters? They are so interesting.
The cows: whimsical without being precious. I love the whole shebang!
I echo the LOVE for the floors. LOOOOVE them!
I want to see more, please!
Um, wow. LOVE those floors and the woodwork. Very nice! I want to see more too.
Those floors are amazing...was that a DYI project or can you purchase that flooring? If so, would you be able to provide the color name or manufacturer?
This is such a warm and welcoming space. Well done!
Very nice place - but I don't think that an apartment with a deck and a screened porch counts as 'small.' Maybe in Texas.... but not in the real world ;)
I want that bathtub! NOW!
OMG, a kitchen with ample storage! :) Beautiful!
Lovely place. On a nitpicky grammar note, i think you mean "Not Everything is Bigger in Texas." "Everything is not bigger" means that nothing is bigger!
I am thrilled that our little house was picked! It is a house and not an apartment, my husband built the house and I designed it. I wish I could have shown more pictures, we have a great laundry/pantry and the cutest little back yard. My husband used antique wall board from different farm houses in Texas for the floors, hence the different colors. He was going to just sand them down but when I saw them I yelled...STOP!! Thanks for all the wonderful comments :o) Also, no splinters... the wood is so old and smooth.
House tour please! This is so Texas and so awesome it makes me want to move back to Austin.
seriously amazing! house tour pleeeeease at?
I love the light in the kitchen - both the electrics and just the natural light coming in, it made it look so warm and inviting.
The cow painting cracked me up - very Texas!
The bath is of course great too.
Only thing I don't like is your couch cushions. They look a bit odd and too big perhaps?
All the wood beams and the bamboo blinds do so much to unify every room of the space. Love all the white -- smart way to work with the floors. Would love to see the outside spaces, especially the screened-in porch. I would think in a Texas climate that would be very usable living space -- wonder if it's included in your 960 sq feet?
Not my style but I really like it and those floors? Get out of here!
wow.....AMAZING FLOORS..how do I get those
LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about it. can you say dream home? and my name is lisa too. I need need need more pictures! I wanna see the outside!
Two words.. Love it! Got my vote...
Best Floors Ever!
Such a beautiful home! The collection of mirrors behind the toilet! I could never ever think of!
H o u s e T o u r please!
I have to say it: the ARCHITECT of this place should win an award as well. How'd they fit TWO bedrooms AND TWO BATHROOMS into this place? Wow. Mind blown.
You had me with the floors!!!!!!
How do you get to the second bedroom? It's driving me crazy that I can't figure that out... love the house, though!
HOUSE TOUR NOWWWWWWW!
the floors are stunning, cool, brave, wow!
You've packed a lot of charm into a small space.
I must be the only one who hates the floors.
However I love the bathroom and the tub.
Thank goodness somebody else compulsively collects mirrors! Ya got my vote!
God Bless Gruene Hall! Love this place. Very true to the spirit of the light and beauty of the Hill Country. Thanks for sharing!
oh, its so Texas. the floors are so cool!!!!
Beautiful !!!
Wonderful! This house better be an AT tour soon or else I'm gonna drive over to Gruene Hall with a compass and walk 1 mile in all directions until I find it and make you guys give me a live tour, Lisa. ;-) Very well done.
You get my vote! I love it all. Except that bathroom rug. It really doesn't fit the vibe of the rest of the home.
AMAZING!!!! I definitely vote for a house tour, as well.
LOOOOOOOVE the bath!! So jealous!!!
I would love to do a house tour... when the contest has ended I will make my submission. I can't thank everyone enough for the very kind comments. This is the very first contest I have ever entered. Here are the answers to some of the questions:
@Housegal - The dresser in the bedroom is a built-in made by the cabinetmaker and the top on the dresser was made by my husband.
@Eliz - The screen porch is not included in the square footage. Only heated and cooled space is typically included. It is very useful except not usable in the summer because of the extreme heat in Texas, it turns into a hotbox.
@Oldmadenewagain - The second floor is accessed by a spiral staircase located in the dining room.
The first thing I noticed were the awesome floors!! WOW! I loved the kitchen and bedroom as well!! Nicely done.
I love the multiple mirrors in the bathroom. It's something I would have never thought of and seriously considering to do in my own bathroom now :)
Love the white and wood.
HOUSE TOUR!!!!!!!! I want to see that spiral staircase!!
I LOVE that cow picture in your living room! Please - please provide a source. (btw - the rest of the house is pretty nice, too!)
Yeah, I'll hit that floor any day. Love the sink closet, blinds
you had me at floor!
Oh, this is so beautiful! I join all the others in asking for a full house tour, pretty please?
I, too, have to say: THOSE FLOORS!
LOVE NB and Gruene. I was there last year and fell in love. Great job!!
house tour!!!!! love it.
I been in this adorable gem and it is even more incredible in person!!!!!!!!!
Definitely the WINNER!!!
FLOORS ARE GREAT!
Ha! My sister has the cow painting that's in the living room. I thought she was crazy for buying it (she got it in TX when stationed there, I think). It looks really good in your space, though!
LOVE! the natural flooring, master bath, decor, etc! GREAT JOB!!
Absolutely lovely! Wish I could take a peep at the spiral staircase.
It's delightful that this not only sports so many features built by the owners but is also home to a family of four.
@TENBAR I purchased the cow picture at a little shop in Gruene, Texas called Lone Star Eclectic. I searched for the artist but could not find anything. The signature reads, "BWMELLENO" Hope this helps :o)
we need more pictures! I wanna see the kids' room and office!
house tour house tour house tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I adorrrrrrrrrrrre!
I am floored bybyour FLOORS!!!! Such a beautiful choice! This entry literally took my breath away!!!
