Lisa loves vivid colors, but her apartment walls were all white. She wanted her rental apartment to feel more like a home, and incorporating her favorite colors was a perfect place to start. We teamed up with Glidden Paint this summer to work with Lisa and two other renters and help them explore how color can transform a rental into a home.
Lisa wanted to paint her foyer an inviting shade of her favorite color, pink. Nicole Balch, Colortopia Team Member and author of the blog, Making It Lovely, sent over 3 Glidden Paint options: Sexy Pink, Blooming Fuchsia, and Very Berry. Lisa painted swatches on the wall and was drawn to the rich magenta of Very Berry, a dramatic choice for her entryway.
Lisa and Nicole taped off the mouldings and primed the walls with a Glidden Gripper grey primer, a crucial step when painting white walls with a vivid color in the red family. Then they got rolling!
Because Lisa's foyer is small, the Very Berry packs the perfect amount of punch. The pink is crisply offset by the hallway's white trim and black-and-white artwork. Nicole added an unexpected complement with orange accents in the stool and table lamp.
Lisa is thrilled with the results: "I love it. I love the color. I finally feel like I'm in my home, not just an apartment — it's mine." Coming home every day to her favorite color has inspired Lisa to add color to other rooms in her apartment, too! As a renter, she'll have to repaint the walls white before she moves out, but for the next couple years — at least — her apartment will feel like a home that really reflects her personality and taste.

White Enamel Four-P...
Love that color - very chic!
Lovely! I know some people will protest against this color, but I think it's beautiful. Wish I had the nerve to put some color like this somewhere in my condo.
Beautiful! It makes YOU happy and you are going to love living in your apartment. That is all that matters!
Absolutely fabulous.
The color is so exciting! Very vibrant and like another poster said, if it makes you happy, that's all that matters. I have my office pink, black & white with pops of turquoise (kind of like a Victorias Secret box) and I love it. It makes me happy and I don't care what other people thing about it because I'm in it everyday, I'm the one that needs to love it.
Yay! Kudos to Nicole from Making It Lovely! Great job! :)
The colour is pretty, but I hate how the walls shine, they look greasy.
I love this! It's very lively.
The only thing i dont like is the sheen of the paint on the walls. it might have looked a lot better if flat paint was used.
i also liked the lighter pink! :)
The color is pretty, but there is too much of it. It almost drowns out the room.
Gutsy and glamorous. Great choice!
It's not for everyone, but I would have left the ceiling white.
I prefer the before - don't like that shade of pink, or the bright white trim.
Love the colour, but too glossy.
I'm not sure about the color. Pink is so hard to get right on a wall. I do love pink in general and I thnk that room is just a hallway so what the heck. I think it is a decent color for a hallway.
I love the color. Great job!
I don't like that it's glossy... The color is nice though.
Great color, but like others - I think a flat or even matte finish would hide the imperfections in those older walls.
This was an exciting change. I'm in love with the Very Berry.
Excellent! Great to surround yourself with colors in which you look spectacular. Well, done, Lisa!
Love Nicole and her blog, so happy to see this featured here! Love, love, love the color and white trim - but please repaint in a lower sheen! Ow! My eyes!
If this is an instructional video, I wish the paint company would have shown the light switch plate being removed before the wall was painted rather than just taping it off.
Whoa. Just whoa. As long as she loves it though. That's really all that matters.
You should also lightly sand your walls prior to priming them to smooth them out get rid of any prior bumps and stuff stuck in the paint from the previous paint job and help the paint adhere better and if your going over a super glossy paint like this you will want to sand it first.
Love the pink entryway
oh i love this, but then i'm already a fan of pink in the hallway!! ;0)
however, i also agree that a less shiny paint might have worked better and i probably would have left the ceiling white too.
I loved reading all of the comments! A bold color like this can be a little polarizing, but this was a fun one to work on. And of course I am always partial to pink.
I agree, the sheen looks very glossy in the photo, but it doesn't look like that normally. There was an extremely bright light in the hallway for the video shoot, and without it there is no glaring shine. And the ceiling is still white; we just painted the wall portion above the picture rail.
I agree with Reindeermoss -- it's not that hard to unscrew the switch plates.
The switch plates were original and had been painted over at some point (likely many times). There was no way to remove them without damaging the wall, so we opted to create a clean line with painter's tape.
Lisa I love it! The entryway looks phenomenal! And the color becomes YOU!
