Lisa loves vivid colors, but her apartment walls were all white. She wanted her rental apartment to feel more like a home, and incorporating her favorite colors was a perfect place to start. We teamed up with Glidden Paint this summer to work with Lisa and two other renters and help them explore how color can transform a rental into a home.
Lisa wanted to paint her foyer an inviting shade of her favorite color, pink. Nicole Balch, Colortopia Team Member and author of the blog, Making It Lovely, sent over 3 Glidden Paint options: Sexy Pink, Blooming Fuchsia, and Very Berry. Lisa painted swatches on the wall and was drawn to the rich magenta of Very Berry, a dramatic choice for her entryway.
Lisa and Nicole taped off the mouldings and primed the walls with a Glidden Gripper grey primer, a crucial step when painting white walls with a vivid color in the red family. Then they got rolling!
Because Lisa's foyer is small, the Very Berry packs the perfect amount of punch. The pink is crisply offset by the hallway's white trim and black-and-white artwork. Nicole added an unexpected complement with orange accents in the stool and table lamp.
Lisa is thrilled with the results: "I love it. I love the color. I finally feel like I'm in my home, not just an apartment — it's mine." Coming home every day to her favorite color has inspired Lisa to add color to other rooms in her apartment, too! As a renter, she'll have to repaint the walls white before she moves out, but for the next couple years — at least — her apartment will feel like a home that really reflects her personality and taste.
