Litter Box Hideaway

A common dilemma among cat owners is where to put the litter box. Here's a simple solution -- if you have extra cabinet space, and can cut a hole into the wall of the end cabinet, that is.

This hideaway was devised by architect Stephen Holt, and it also incorporates a pull-out shelf for cat food storage.

you don't have to go to that extreme. my cat's box is in the cabinet under the bathroom sink. i just removed one of the doors, slid his covered BoodaLoo in, and hung cafe curtains on a tension rod over the gap (and the other door so it doesn't look too odd). the curtains open right at his box's door so he just walks through and in. perfect!

We did something like this for a while, with a free-standing cabinet in our entry way. It worked great until we got the 2nd cat, and then we just could never keep it clean enough, we had to break down and get a second box and hide it in another corner.

i did something like this for a friend - she bought a leksvik (sp?) small buffet/thing from IKEA and we purchased (then returned) a jigsaw from home depot, and voila! came out great!

I live in a loft so we have limited choices for hiding the box. Luckily the box fits next to the washer/dryer combo.
I'd love to put in a cat door so I don't have to keep that door ajar.

I live in a 1968 house with the standard hallway built-in linen cabinet/laundry hamper. I took the door off the hamper and slid the box to the back. I'm not sure anyone even notices it's there. If we only had a couple of cats, I'd probably opt for cutting in a small door, though, making it even more discreet.

I wish I didn't rent - I'd be running to Home Depot for a saw after work to get this done tonight.

This would be especially great if you have a dog that likes to "snoop" in your cat's business.

I wish I had thought of that before I tore out the bathroom console and put in the pedestal sink! We're having a kitty-loo dilemma in our house right now...
