The first few years of life are important to a child's development – and including a healthy, earth conscious lifestyle is no less important than any other aspect of their life. With seemingly daily reports of toxic toys and tainted peanut products, it's no surprise that parents are searching for a healthy environment for their children. The soon to open, Little Green Tree House, aims to be Chicago's 'first eco-friendly child care center.'
Designed by Chicago architecture firm, Bauhs Dring Seglin Main Architects and Planners, Little Green Tree House is to have a 'warm, whimsical and natural outdoor feel.' There will be large outdoor play space that will include a vegetable garden and play equipment. The space itself features abundant natural daylight, non-toxic paints and finishes, and Energy Star appliances. In addition to a healthy built environment, the facility will offer all organic and locally sourced meals – and at a minimum, 40% of each week's meals will be entirely vegetarian.
Little Green Tree House is slated to open mid-2009. For more information about the admission, curriculum and building visit their website.
