Apartment Therapy's small spaces month is next month, and we're already thinking about it as we really need an entry table in our apartment. It would help our "landing strip" (which is really small!) greatly. Here are our favorites in the hot, slim, practical category.
• 1 Palm Beach Demi Lune table, 19" D, $1,740 at Oomph.
• 2 Malte bar stool, 11 3/4", D, $39.99 at IKEA. Could function as an entry table (with a tray, that is) and also extra seating, no?
• 3 Era C console table, 8" D, $449 at Crate and Barrel.
• 4 Faceted mirror side table, 12.5" D, $199 at West Elm
• 5 Slim half-round console table, 10" D, $209 at Room and Board

Said it before and I'll say it again -- landing strip is already slang for something else: pubic hair
That WestElm table isn't nearly tall enough for this purpose - at only 20" high, it's best as an end table.
However their Rustic Acacia Console is a better bet: 48" long, 36" high and 10" deep

I've been looking for a center hall table for my foyer. Want a marble top, kind of traditional looking. About 3 ft across and round. Any suggestions as to where to look for that?
mntwmyn- do you mean 3'.0" diameter? Look at local antique stores or find a base you like and have the marble cut locally. To buy one if you can find online would cost the same as the table to ship, heavy and expensive.
You could salvage a rod iron base or a wood base and have the marble cut 36" dia , with a 3/4' to 1" think edge.
I'm looking for an entry table too. Not an easy search! Right now I'm using a white Parsons desk (overstock version-pushed out of the livingroom when I bought a new desk). Other than being a bit chunky for the role, it's working out ok. The two small drawers are perfect for hiding keys, card holders, pens, memo pads, box cutter (for mail), etc. It's not precious so I can throw things on it as I come in.
We have such an odd entrance way... when you walk in there is a closet on the right and a wall on the left with only enough room for the door to swing open. In order to sit down to take off your shoes, you have to round the corner... and still the only place to put anything is right in front of the storage room door. (otherwise you're entering the kitchen, bath or bedrooms). We figured the best way around this was a storage bench. It holds our bags, mittens, and our bums! For small spaces you might consider "multi-purpose" furniture like this too.

the Room and Board console above (and others on their site) offer marble tops.
Yes, I mean a 3' diameter round table, something pretty traditional. Everything I find is too big as most dining tables are 42" diameter. I'd love to find a cool base, but haven't had much luck yet. I was hoping someone had a magic source that would help me find the perfect table. Alas...
I use the Ikea Malte bar stool as a bedside table, and I love it. And my cat loves to hang out underneath it for some reason.
