The movie's been out for ten years now (!) but it still comes to mind as one of the most inspirational little apartments in film in our recent memory. Here, we're looking at some pieces to get the look from Amelie's bedroom:

I have the painting of the dog in the Elizabethan collar hanging by my desk!! The artist has a series of greeting cards that are just precious! I just loved that movie and Amelie's apartment. Oh, and the soundtrack is great!

I loved the intense greens and reds in this movie. I remember once watching the director's commentary, and he had said that they also used deep blue to calibrate the pallet in the film. I sort of stole the whole pallet for my own house, although it does come up short of the Amelie set.

elizabethan collar? isn't that a standard coated plastic collar to keep them from scratching wounds?
as interesting as her pad is, the orangey-red really burns my retinas. only those bright blue lamps provide any relief (of course). in general, jeunet's green/red tones are a bit hard on my eye. distinctive, but not inviting.

Lady J--yes, the dog is wearing a standard post-surgery collar. The title of the painting means "sick dog" ("kranker hund").
That movie reminded me to embrace my quirky side and stop trying to go for perfection.
These are gorgeous for a movie, but real world application (in full) would be a little painful on the eyes. That said, I want that lamp. Burn for it, even. (And the prints.)
I always wanted a floor plan of the apartment, so I could play properly...
Amelie taught me to see plastic dog surgery collars as Elizabethan collars. Love her little world!

I've always loved this movie and the apartments in it! i remember attempting to decorate my 2002 dorm room like Amelie's apartment, and failing pretty miserably.
And just FYI, in veterinary medicine we refer to these protective collars as "E-collars"-- abbreviated for Elizabethan.
