I have been attending music festivals for years now, generally favoring the folk and celtic genres. Most of these festivals bill themselves as family friendly and provide dedicated music or craft tents aimed at kids, and sometimes even offer a few small rides and midway-type attractions. I had never given the kids aspect much thought, but now that I am paying a bit more attention I noticed that one of the ultimate folk festivals ever created is offering what could be considered the ultimate kids entertainment. A tent full of music and Legos.
The Newport Folk Festival and Legos are both classics in their respective fields, so it is natural for them to join forces and offer the Lego Duplo Kidzone at this year's festival. It is a shaded area within earshot of the main stage where families can go to have some fun out of the sun. Not only will there be Legos to be played with, but music will be provided by Elizabeth Mitchell, a shining light in the world of children's music. Sure, the cynical view is to see this as a massive product placement ploy. But I prefer to see it as a great festival going out of its way to make seeing live music a true family affair.
