If you're setting up a workspace on a budget, you might want to check out this live/work room by design firm IDEO. Created for the Marriott Towneplace Suites, an extended stay hotel, the prototypical room incorporates IKEA furniture, wall-mounted storage, and a white-on-white color scheme...

Since most extended stay guests are on long-term business trips, the firm created apartment suites with plenty of workspace. The desk can roll out and act as a room divider, or it can roll under a counter along the wall.

Communal spaces are designed to be self-serve, a cross between a hotel lobby and an apartment foyer. Guests recommend local places to visit, and their ideas are installed on a wall map that acts as a "DIY concierge."

The self-serve reception area follows the same design concept as the rooms: easy access to computers, white-on-white furniture and floors, and streamlined storage.
