- What I Love About My Small Home:
- This is my first apartment and it's where I realized my love for interior design.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Since small spaces are prone to looking cluttered, I like to corral small items into matching bins. And, I try to only ever buy white bins so they'll be interchangeable between rooms.

I adooooore that striped sofa...especially with the floral cushions! Adding this to my inspiration folder :)
That's a really great layout for the apartment, and I love the little kitchen shelves (that is a teensy microwave!)
Gorgeous!
Nicely decorated, low-key and tasteful. Nice use of color and art, just enough without overpowering the small spaces. If I was young, single, and just starting out in my first city apartment, this is how I'd do it.
Great use of space. Very organized. Love the coffee table. Where is it from?
A lovely, relaxing space. Your couch is great and looks so comfortable. Where did you find such a small microwave? Care you share the brand?
LOVEly.
I am sooo digging that striped sofa. Where did you find it?
Also what's the upside-down print above the couch?
I just remembered that Picasso sketch. I thought it looked familiar! We had to draw that sketch upside down in high school.
The black and white striped sofa is the Ikea Ektorp. I just did a search and realized Ikea doesn't make this exact cover anymore (I got it in 2009). That said, it looks like they now make this pretty navy blue striped cover: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40175187/#/10193055
Note to save money I found a gently used Ektorp on Craigslist and then purchased just the cover (about $150) from Ikea.
Yes Ellen you're right, it's a copy of a Picasso. As a kid I loved art and took a whole bunch of drawing classes. Over the years I had several drawing teachers give the assignment to turn this Picasso drawing upside down and try to redraw it. Having the Picasso be upside down when you're trying to copy it forces you to really focus on the lines in relationship to each other, rather than as preconceived shapes (such as that heads are circles). It's fun because when the student is done and turns his/her own drawing right side up, they normally find that it's quite an accurate copy of the Picasso, much better than they thought they were capable of.
I used Photoshop to draw 30x40 inch copy I have hanging in my living room. I got it printed at Kinko's for around $10. My process was similar to this:

Beautiful job! Not too cluttered, which is not easy in a small space, and great use of punches of color. Love it.
Now that's a little house with a character. Kudos to Liz. Beside everything else, I liked the plain curtains, as they let the eye focus on the rooms, not themselves.
I think my picture gives the illusion that the microwave is smaller than it really is. It's an Emerson MW8992SB: 20 inches wide, 11 inches tall, and 14 inches deep.
The coffee table is by Vogue. I got it from Overstock.com. Here's a link: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Vogue-Cocktail-Table/2544714/product.html
The living room looks like a magazine cover!
Love the cofee table and that sweet little foot stool! Also love all the shelving! Very nice apt :)
Fabulous color choices and accent pillows. Love the picture on the wall of the young boy.

I love your couch!
