When people mention "local and organic", they're likely discussing the merits of eating consciously, in regards to both our own bodies and the environment. Applying that philosophy to home furnishings is a burgeoning trade. Santa Monica company EKLA HOME is now offering a line of organic non-toxic sofas, chairs, and beds manufactured with materials sourced as close to possible to their facility...
Furnishings made of 97% pure rubber with no chemical additives, reclaimed woods when possible, and all built in the US...basically really thoughtfully manufactured pieces made to improve your life, not invade it with off gassing VOCs and other toxins. And just as importantly, we think EKLA HOME
is producing some good looking designs that could fit into most any home, like the elegant Camille couch shown at the top of the post, or the Box and Kristina Sectionals shown directly above.
EKLA HOME is a member of the Sustainable Furniture Council, Organic Trade Association and Co-Op America, and works with other companies/individuals with partners who share the goal of reducing waste, reducing toxins in products and the environment as well as promoting fair labor practices. EKLA HOME also donates a percentage of its profits to non-profit organizations with the same goals.
