While Los Angeles is often in the news for entertainment and tabloid fodder, there is an incredible creative and strong design community here. Many of these designers are highlighted in the newest issue of Los Angeles Magazine, focusing on handmade designs.
Noting quality as one of the big reasons these local LA designers shine is definitely on point. The designs range from furniture made from all types of different materials, like reclaimed wood, to the accents handcrafted out of ceramic to a mix of high/low that features IKEA hacks and more. It's important to support and buy locally and within this profile, you should have no problem furnishing your home with their goods. Plus local designers give great tips on caring for your products and being resourceful like how to fix a broken plate or mend your dining table. Featured in the photo gallery (clockwise from lamp) is a small handful of these designers:
- Cone floor lamp by Lesley Anton
- Hedgerow chair by Martin Pierce
- Chair repair by Sidecar Furniture
- Los Galos Series No. 1 by whyrHymer
- Album side table by Bughouse

Wow, it's great to see that LA has such an artisan community. The emphasis on quality is one of the things that I love about local LA products.
LA used to have quite the thriving manufacturing community too, until high rents and environmental concerns drove these businesses out of the country. There were potteries, paint factories, furniture companies, etc.
