We're fans of Emma Reddington's design blog, the Marion House Book, and were thrilled to see that her home, featured in Canadian House & Home, is now online. The story shows before and after photos of her Toronto house and the images provide lots of inspiring ideas. More
Ok, I realize "small spaces" isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think of my homeland — more like vast open spaces. But we Canucks are pretty good at making do when we have to, and living little is no exception. Since we're all about small this month on Apartment Therapy, I thought I'd round up some Small, Cool, Canadian spaces from past contests. More

- What I Love About My Small Home:
- There are a lot of things that I love about our wee little home: It always feels cozy, doesn't take long to clean or cost much to heat, and it fits my hubby and I just perfectly.
When we bought our bungalow we knew that we didn't need all of the space and that it would be nice to get some rent to help pay our mortgage (we chose to live in our favourite trendy neighbourhood where the house prices are pretty high!). So, we renovated the basement to turn it into a one-bedroom apartment which we rent out. This helps us out financially and suits us really well. We love our little home!
Designer Meredith Heron's Toronto is a mix of color, pattern and texture. The calm, neutral walls and floors balance out the wilder fabric, furniture and rugs, so while the house is full of pattern and movement, it still manages to be comfortable and cozy. More

- What I Love About My Small Home:
- What do I love most about my space? Being completely head over heels in love with each square inch of it. I surround myself with the things I love, that inspire me, and that make me smile. That's what my small space is all about: being distinctly me and expressing myself creatively. I love waking up every morning and being energized and inspired by my surroundings.

- The one large window. I lived in a basement unit for two years prior to moving into this place and I didn't realize how much I actually missed a view until I moved in here.
The One of a Kind Show in Toronto is a great place to buy handmade decor, furniture and accessories, available directly from artisans. Though this year's show was filled with clothing and jewelry designers, we also found a number of beautiful wood pieces for the home. More

- The light! I face south, and have windows across the length of the apartment. The sun fills the whole place. Having a decent sized patio is also a blessing. In the summer, it is a fantastic place for friends to hang out and enjoy cold drinks, and the ocassional Canucks playoff game.
