Yesterday and today I took in the best London show of the week: Design Junction. Three floors of great work from designers big and small made for a really interesting and electric mix. Check out these new faces, all who will ship to the US (I asked). Today we're posting 1/2 of the people I liked and Monday you'll get the rest. Enjoy! More
Posts from England
Maxwell's running around London today and tomorrow, soaking in London Design Festival and sending us pics. Of the three main shows happening simultaneously right now, these pics are from Tent London, the interesting, crafty, non-pretentious show in Shoreditch, east of downtown. Check out what he spotted. In London too? Visit the show and tell us what else you like. More

Given we live in the afternoon tea capital of the world, the theme for the babyshower for our little baby girl, Leyla, was "Traditional English Afternoon Tea". More
What cyclist doesn't wish they could travel a city unencumbered by cars? London's solution may be an elevated bike-only highway called SkyCycle. Connecting at train stations, SkyCycle access would require a small fee, but allow bikes the safety and speed of commuting without vehicles or pedestrians. The project is not yet approved, and would likely take 2 years to be constructed.

Name: Sarah Redshaw
Location: Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom
Size: 905 square feet
Years lived in: 13 years; owned
For most of its life, Sarah's South London terraced home had a traditional two-up, two-down layout. But after 12 years of ownership, Sarah decided that the arrangement wasn't working for her anymore. She craved more space, more light, and a more contemporary feel. Rather than move to a different home, Sarah opted to renovate and extend — and she knew just who to call for reinforcements.
Name: Rebecca Proctor, Andrew Wightman and baby Wren
Location: Bude, Cornwall, UK
Size: 780 square feet
Years lived in: 4 years; Owned
Moving to the Cornish countryside from London four years ago, Andrew and Rebecca embraced a major design challenge. "We knew that we wanted to create a home that would feel cosy but not cluttered. Moving to the countryside was all about living a simple life and we wanted the house to reflect that."
The aviation debate waging in London is whether to expand Heathrow or build a new airport. Gensler offers this rendering of a proposed structure in the middle of the Thames estuary, with four runways anchored to the riverbed and terminals floating in between. The project would cost an estimated £50 billion. And what would happen to Heathrow? Converted into an eco-city for 300,000 residents.

Name: Jacqueline (pictured with daughter Pereen)
Location: Mortlake, London, United Kingdom
Size: 2,500 square feet
Years lived in: 29 years; owned
I was tipped off to Jacqueline's beautiful riverside home by a mutual friend of her daughter (and architect, but we'll get to that) Pereen. I'd been told of the lovely location and relaxed ambiance of the home, as well as the marvelous art collection within, but nothing quite prepared me for the many layers of history and design which I discovered here.
