Last year, Mark D. Sikes, the-Creative-Director-of-Banana-Republic-turned-Interior-Designer, and I had a full-on conversation about his design work as well as his amazing resource of a blog, Chic People, Glamorous Places, Beautiful Things. Mark's interiors are like his blog, chic and glamorous, but they also possess two elements that are often forgotten in that equation: comfort and function. Think of a great pair of jeans, the perfect white shirt, a great pair of loafers, a beautiful navy cashmere blazer. Simple, elegant, classic, yet, ulimately, highly wearable and easy to live in every day. As in clothes, so in interiors. Mark's are timeless.
Both the temperatures and the sales are heating up as we move into June. From classics like Herman Miller to contemporary looks from Magis, there are deals to be had along with art, crafts and local goodies at city fests, fairs and fundraisers. Check it all out in the Weekend Guide, pass it on and be sure to send us your own sale or event.
Name: Heinz Legler and Veronique Lievre - Owners of Boutique-Homes.com and Creators of Verana Location: Topanga; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,500 square feet Years lived in: 11 years
Veronique and Heinz purchased their Topanga home 10 years ago. They were looking for land when their realtor showed them a house that was in really bad condition — mice running around, trash everywhere, structure in horrible condition — but with a great view. Fortunately, they were able to look past the deteriorating condition of the property and saw its potential.

Name: Annah Zafrani - SVP Media Promotions, Universal Pictures & Co-owner of Loren Stewart, and Benny Zafrani - Owner of Honeydew Intimates Location: Valley Village; Los Angeles, California Size: 2,500 square feet Years lived in: 11 years
When Annah and Benny decided to start a family, they also decided to move to the Valley into a family-friendly neighborhood. They found a new home with a great floor plan with a logical flow, located on a quiet tree lined street. Annah was excited that the house needed some work, and she could make it her project. Adding the pool and cabana in the backyard was just one of her many additions.
Name: Beth, Jeff, Ruby, and Fiona Location:
Bixby Knolls, Long Beach, California Size: 1,000 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Owned
Set back off of a quiet street in Bixby Knolls is Beth and Jeff’s lovingly
crafted one-story 1920s home, shared with daughters Ruby, 4, and Fiona,
9 months. But it wasn’t always so quaint. When they purchased the home six
years ago, it was dilapidated and in desperate need of TLC. With Beth’s artistic
vision and Jeff’s DIY skills, they redid everything inside
and outside the home themselves, as a team.
While most designers create moodboards when beginning a project, David Scott takes it a step further, filling boxes with a collections of items — a feather, a rock, a fabric swatch — that inform his, and his client's, inspiration for a space; his book, Outside The Box, illustrates how these tactile elements evolve into rooms. No surprise then that the New York-based designer's (one of the few out-of-staters participating in this year's La Cienega Design Quarter Legends of La Cienega event) work has often been defined as textural, inviting, sensual and lush.
