What if you could live totally off the grid in a modern studio in the center of a city with a river view for under $110K? Barcelona design studio Magma Design has proposed just that.
LoftFloat is a stylish, solar-powered houseboat destined to be moored along Barcelona's Besos River or in standard berths in one of the city's three ports. At around 485 square feet, the compact units are cleverly designed with a central partition wall that houses the kitchen and separates the living and sleeping areas without obstructing the view.
We're not sure how stable these would be on the Charles, but it's an ingenious solution to urban overcrowding. Plus, you'd have choice seats for the Regatta and the Fourth of July fireworks!

My first thought: where does the waste water end up? and what do you do about invasions of Canadian Geese??!
Other than that, I'm loving the "river stone" furniture concept.
The Charles is actually controlled by a dam, which keeps it pretty calm and stable right at sea level (no tides).
Modern, floor to ceiling windows, boat, on the water... dream house!!!!! A bit small, maybe weekend house.
Sign me up!!
I'd like mine to stay in Barcelona! I love that city so much...
And now I have a new house porn fantasy: I berth one of these at Sausalito's Waldo Point, and I walk to the Heath Ceramics factory store to buy beautiful dishes for serving beautiful lunches on my beautiful houseboat. Sigh.
Here in Seattle...on Lake Union...just my chihuahuas and me. Sigh...
I grew up on a houseboat community. The thing to keep in mind is that most houseboats are inexpensive - it's the docking and community fees that are expensive. They also don't build equity, since you don't own any property. There are tons of advantages to houseboat living, but they are basically just trailers on water. That said, this one is fabulous!
I want those rock shaped poufs. Any ideas where I can find them? Thanks.
I'd do it in a minute - if I had the right mooring!
I'm with you, s7mylsup! Lake Union would be the perfect place for one of these. I'd move in tomorrow.
