Lofty Expectations Turned Into Loft-Like Basement Renovation and Home Office

DeskTops - The Best of Home Office Desks

Name: Bruce Wentworth, AIA of Wentworth, Inc.
Location: Maryland

I ran into this showcase basement home office and entertainment renovation project today in a roundabout manner, first discovering an unlinked image over at Pinterest, then over at Chinese decor blog Wanjuhe.com, and then finally at its source over at Houzz. It was worth the image source goose chase, as the project revealed one of the most beautifully executed renovated basements with a perfect small space custom desk (look at the tiny corner shelf hiding underneath the left side!)...

Bruce Wentworth, AIA describes the project:

A family of two young children, living in a 1920s row house, requested a playroom for their kids. There is a TV, play, desk areas along with a laundry closet. The loft-like design with open floor joists allows a sense of additional height. And the wood strips that horizontally clad interior columns integrated with a bulkhead that conceals a beam, ducts, pipes and wires, is the most interesting feature.

Tech and Office Hardware:

  • Furniture from Design Within Reach
  • The desk was custom made with a birch veneer plywood
  • All paint by Benjamin Moore
  • Herman Miller Leaf Personal LED Task Light by Yves Behar
  • Herman Miller Aeron task chair
  • Apple MacBook
