We love this idea of repurposing a desk drawer full of organized sections as craft storage on a wall. We spotted this neat idea on a blog called Hummmlan (check it out for more crafty inspiration). We've included more views of Hummmlan's craft corner after the jump.
Each nook and cranny of space is utilizing an organizational purpose. From the hanging red ribbon holding homemade drawings to the glass jars holding buttons--this area is a crafter's (and an organizer's) dream. We love the simple color palette of country white and pale green with small pops of red, black (from the hanging lamp), and organic wood. Each space is sectioned off into a zone without becoming cluttered. And we love the decorative wrapping paper placed in the white bin--a smart use of corner space for this room.

I grew up with a drawer like this on the wall in the kitchen.
Whenever my mom found a small toy lying around it became art... which was annoying cus I kept losing toys.
My Dad hated it cus he thought it was too cluttered looking.
I Love it and I wish I had one of my own!
We've always had these in my family as momento holders. Hang on wall and fill with random ticket stubs, tiny photos, election pins, little rocks and feathers pick up on vacation, etc. We hang ours in the guest room for friends and family to peruse. I've never thought of using it for actual organization purposes. Most of those boxes are pretty damn small.

There is beauty in restraint at work here - not every nook has something and the ones that do are not stuffed to the gills...
You all are so creative... I would have never thought of this. Love it but for my own home I think I'd do it on a smaller scale
I don't think this is anything new. We have a shadowbox on one of our walls and know other people that have done something similar.
That drawer freaks me out - it's so shallow, it would be very easy to start knocking things off it; not to mention an earthquake. How do those spools of thread lying on their sides not just roll right off?
For permanent fixtures I use a foamcore-like double sided tape so there is no worry of falling objects...that and Toronto hasn't seen too many earthquakes.
Well, that's a type case, which is what a drawer for storing sorted metal type is called.
modtramp is right -- the term is type case; printmakers live and die by their terminology... (we're an odd bunch). Case in point, a 'dresser' of the 'drawers' is called a cabinet.
This looks great but let's not kid ourselves as to the functionality. When you want thread, don't you really want the spools all lined up by color and weight?
I know you all set it already but it's a type case! ( I know I learned something by majoring in Printing)
And we had one of these hanging in the hall way full of miniature cutsie things like tiny tea sets for dollhouses. My mom would pay me $2 to take everything off and dust it all.
i use a type case on a wall for jewelry and it is actually very hard to secure it to the wall in a manner so things don't fall out...
definitely a type case - they were all the rage about 40 years ago around here :-D
