We've blogged reusing old clothing for furniture projects before (old watches used as drawer pulls is a favorite idea!) but we never thought about reusing our old strapless tulle dresses before we saw this picture....
We love the playfulness these clouds of fabric add to a room with otherwise graphic and linear lines..We'd hang it over a lampshade frame to avoid any chance of fire. Try it for a touch of frivolity in your own home.

for some reason, i really like this...now if only my ceilings were higher...
I'm pretty sure it looks horrid in person.
Would it be rude to look up at the bulb?
It reminds me a little of those things you throw over a plate of food to keep the flies away.
My favorite interpretation of this idea is Christiane Hoegner's Tennis Skirt Lamps.
DUST-MAGNET, no?
If I look at it out of the corner of my eye, it looks like a ballerina hung herself in this person's apartment. :')
Ah, yes, linear lines. Do we mean straight lines?
I like the ballet suicide idea, but the tulle shade isn't all that decorative.
Allsunday, it's a ballerina suicide for sure.
And, exactly how many "strapless tulle dresses" does this poster have available to reuse?
It's not exactly a common household item but the post makes it sound like everyone's got one lying around.
???
I got one at goodwill for $6! but I am going to remake it and wear it.
this one is really disturbing -- beyond macabre
I actually love the way this looks, at least in the picture, but this a big ol' fire hazard. Seriously, your crafty reuse will be seen in a less favorable light when you are standing in the middle of smoldering ruins.
Gosh, I'm getting to worry as much as my mom. The generational torch has passed.
oh that poor ballerina. this is a set-up.
MURDER.
bleeeeeh.
Oh no. No no no. Why would you do that to an otherwise perfectly good room?!
Look! A fire in the reading room!
Yep, it's a fire hazard. An apt complex near my old home had a fire start -- and destroy several buildings -- precisely because of this type of DIY project.
I mourn the poor ballerina who died for this mess.
never mind the tutu, i'm enjoying that shelving!
