Looks like a flock of golden cranes coming in for a landing at the Canvas Gallery and Cafe. On closer inspection this art installation is an OCD-inspired assemblage of loosely-crumpled wads of paper, colored International Orange (the paint used on the GG Bridge), strung up on wire, and hung from the ceiling en masse. The effect is fantabulous. (Though we wouldn't try at home unless you have a lot of time to spare.)

I did a double-take the other day when I was driving by and saw this. I love it. There was a similar installation of bird-like objects (white ones) at a Red Ink Studios show several months ago. I just loved the sensation of walking through all those suspended "birds." And i love the way your eye fills in the blanks to make the fairly amorphous shapes look like birds. Lovely!
How marvelous! Like Fall leaves caught in mid-air.
Has anyone looked close enough to see how they're mounted to the ceiling? I'm obsessed with hanging things from the ceiling right now.
How funny - I drove by this yesterday and didn't have time to pull over to investigate ... thanks AT!
I think Neiman Marcus has a similar installation that suspends from their ceiling through 3 stories that resembles butterflies. They were strung up on clear fishing wire. Since this is not that heavy, you could probably just use pins or tacks to mount the wires.
Oh I just love this. A strong example that intriguing design need not cost thousands. Great post.

Reminds me a bit of the installation at Grace Cathedral around the holidays - did anyone see it?
It was very cool and people seemed mesmerized by it...
