One of our local libraries has this old claw foot tub filled with pillows in the middle of the children's section. Reading a book or listening to a story suddenly seems a lot more interesting to some of of the kids while sitting in a bathtub.
If you're spring cleaning and decluttering, think twice before you get rid of old things- you might already have the components of a special place to read. If not, you need not go out and buy a claw foot tub. Think floor pillows in different textures, tents, teepees, or forts, or even closets.
Does your child have a special reading spot?

Nomade Express Slee...
hey, this is OUR local library!, so I guess we are neighbors Julia, small world ;)
our kindergarden class had a reading tub when i went!!! ours was navy blue.
We had one of these filled with pillows in the after-school daycare I used to teach at - the kids absolutely loved it, and I remember reading chapter after chapter of some very long book to a couple of 4th graders week after week! (Right now though, I see the hard enamel and just think - eek, more bruises/stitches/scars on my toddler!)
Oh this is totally cool!!!
My fifth grade teacher had this same set up in her classroom-- I loved it!
elif- that's too funny...we've probably walked by each other. glad to know you!
my fifth grade classroom had one as well!
We've done this in a number of early ed centers...
Ha, reminds me of first grade, only our tub had a big sail, too!
No way! I've never seen this before. How cute! My dad has an old clawfoot tub that he uses for agricultural purposes right now...I'm just waiting patiently to get that and a few other cool cabinets in his possession (he's a veterinarian).
Julia and Elif...I live there too! Such a small world
Back in the early 80s, my elementary school also had a tub in the library. It was beneath a "tree house" which was a platform, kind of like a top bunk, that had pillows on top. These were the two most coveted spots, and you were lucky to be able to hang out in one of them during library time.
