This took awhile. Back when the Fall Green Cure started, one of our goals was to purchase a desk. We figured that the greenest way to go would be to buy a previously used desk; but, after close to a month of scouring Craigslist and local garage sales, we still hadn't found what we wanted. That's just about the same time the Wooden Duck's Annual Fall Sale came around. They had a desk we'd been eying -- the Emma Desk. But, at $795, without a serious mark down, it was seriously out of our price range.
Luckily, Wooden Duck also holds a "ding & dent" sale at their factory in Berkeley. We got there early and, sure enough, there was "our" desk with a gigantic crack down the middle. We figured the crack only added character to a desk we already loved (and the people at Wooden Duck promised it wouldn't crack any further). Obviously, they gave us an amazing deal on the desk, which is made of recycled teak.
We're very happy with it (crack and all) and hope it'll be one of those pieces that gets passed down through generations.
