We’re happy to discover that someone else shares our fondness for the beautiful variety of architectural elements that grace the facades of many of the older apartment buildings throughout the Southland. Photographer Est Nyboer has a series of architectural photographs that focus on these decorative elements of a bygone era, including numbers, lighting and ornaments common to the midcentury/themed apartments of Los Angeles' past. "I can't stop taking these pictures. Initially I was drawn to the signs, cursive expressions of landlord pride affixed to stucco walls. They signify nobility or the tropics or perhaps a great love. Bathed in daily allotments of sunlight, they distract attention from regrettable foundations and keep the focus where it belongs: on the good life." We couldn't agree more. Galleries here.
