We love the look of reclaimed wood, and these photos of apple crates integrated into the interior design of a home are probably our favorite examples thus far. Check after the jump for a great idea for a easy DIY project using an old apple crate...

Pretty fun, huh? Looks like it's as easy as attaching a few metal casters to the bottom of the box. Depending on what you're storing you might want to first add a thin layer of MDF to the bottom so nothing can fall or (in the case of recyclables) drip out.

Love it!
Love the recycling idea in the reclaimed wood box. I use wine crates for my recycling box.
"A" is clearly for "awesome."
I wonder how they sealed the boxes in the top to keep the horrible rotten apple-vinegar stench from stenching.
The apple crates? Yuck... But I love the stove!
Another stunning photograph that begs the question, "How does this look in real life?"
Where do you find crates like this?
as a teenager, i worked at a produce market and collected dozens of these sorts of apple crates. stacked one on top of another, they served as bookshelves and plant nooks in college. in the years between, i've let some go, but i still have a few which we now use for behind-the-scenes storage. but, man - do they look awesome here. and i'm a sucker for pretty much anything on castors ... sold!
"Hillbilly Chic"
disgusting? Give me a break.
I think both photos are gorgeous btw.
hygiene? silly. Very nice use of apple crates. We use ours as magazine storage
I like the one with the wheels
the green in me loves this one and i think it looks very modern. i also suspect that the flat fronts here are alot more hygienic than many of the paneled / molding ladden choices we see but wonder about cleaning?
any ideas where to get these? trader joes? farmer's market? farm? I wonder if potatoe crates would be less smelly? do apple crates really smell?
so many questions :)
Anyone know who makes the stove?
i found a web site selling new apple crates in various sizes and stains: http://www.colonialtrading.com/cgi-local/2col.cgi?id=134&si=115787416545194 for people who want them but can't find them
We live near Asheville, NC and we have 100's of old apple crates for sale! Cleaning out the barn! Two kinds! $3-$4 each! Email us! stumblejourney@verizon.net
Apple crates don't have a rotten apple smell at all... at least not the ones I have in my house. We bought them for $5 each at a local orchard, gave them a good scrubbing and are thrilled with how they look (and smell) in our house.
